DIAL awards Duty Free Concession for IGI Airport''s Terminal 3 to Aer Rianta International and IDFS
Delhi International Airport (P) Limited (DIAL) has issued Letter of Award to the Consortium comprising Aer Rianta International (ARI) of Ireland and Indian Duty Free Services (IDFS) to participate with DIAL in a Joint Venture Company for License to Develop, Operate, Maintain and Manage Duty-free outlets at Indira Gandhi International Airport''s upcoming Terminal 3.
Aer Rianta - the Irish travel retailer, together with its Indian partner IDFS, submitted the best bid. Aer Rianta is fully owned by Dublin Airport Authority (An Irish Government owned entity) and with over 60 years of experience, it is acknowledged and respected as one of the world''s leading airport retailing specialists, engaged in modern retail centres at major airports in Europe, Eastern Europe, North America and the Middle East. Considered among the pioneers of the airport retail business, it started retail operations at Shannon Airport in Ireland way back in 1947. It was also instrumental in setting up the Dubai Duty Free, which is now one of the largest duty free operator in the world.
This relationship would allow for a greater synergy between DIAL and ARI / IDFS as both airport operators have in depth understanding of passengers'' needs as well as the airport environment. Moreover, ARI''s has a proven track record of operating JV Duty Free concessions in European & emerging markets which have yielded good results for all stakeholders. For example, it has been successfully operating the Joint Venture Models at Moscow Airport Duty Free on a 21 years contract and at Bahrain Airport on a 16 year contract.
IDFS has established itself as a leading travel retail operator in South Asia. Since its establishment, IDFS has diversified into numerous travel retail oriented businesses which include Duty Free sales, In-flight retail, airline amenities and warehousing.
DIAL Chief Commercial Officer Gavin Mckechnie said, "We have received proposals from 5 bidders namely Aldeasa, Aer Rianta-IDFS consortium, Dufry-lnterglobe Consortium, Flemingo International and Setur. It is worth noting that, despite the economic downturn, the response to the RFP truly reflects the growth potential of the Indian economy and airport sector in particular."
Construction work is currently underway for IGI Airport''s Terminal 3 which is scheduled to be in operation before the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi. T3 would be among the largest passenger terminals in the world covering more than 5 million sq feet. It is would be an integrated terminal handling both domestic and international departure and arrivals. T3 is part of Phase 1 of IGI Airport''s Master Plan development having a total project outlay exceeding USD 2 billion and would increase the airport''s capacity to handle more than 60 million passengers a year.

Late sell-off in RIL weighs on market
higher after reports filtered in that India's Defence Attache
Brigadier R D Mehta and three other Indians among forty-one people
were killed in a suicide attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul
today. A sharp slump in prices of Reliance Industries (RIL),
Reliance Communications, Reliance Infrastructure, Larsen & Toubro,
and Bharat Heavy Electricals caused the late slide on the bourses.
The market had remained firm in most part of the day on firm global
cues and due to easing of political uncertainty.
IT, FMCG stocks gained whereas oil & gas and capital goods stocks
fell. The market breadth was strong with small-cap and mid-cap
shares staging a comeback after a sharp recent plunge.
Poitical worries receded with Samajwadi Party (SP), a regional
party, on making it clear during the week end that it will support
the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), at a time when
Left parties are on the verge of withdrawing support. The Left
front has set 7 July 2008 as deadline for the government to let
them know whether it intends to approach the International Atomic
Energy Agency to seal the India-specific safeguards agreement.
European markets which opened after the Indian markets were in
green. Key benchmark indices in France, Germany and UK were up
between 0.46% to 0.61%.
The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 71.99 points or 0.54% at 13,525.99. At
the day's high of 13,793.39 hit in mid-morning trade, the Sensex
gained 339.29 points. Sensex was up 22.29 points at the day's low
of 13,476.29 hit in late trade.
As per the provisional figures on NSE, the foreign institutional
investors (FII)'s sold shares worth Rs 439.57 crore,while domestic
funds bought shares worth Rs 75.9 crore today, 7 July 2008.
The broader based S&P CNX Nifty gained 14 points or 0.35% at 4,030.
Nifty July 2008 futures were at 3979, at a discount of 51 points as
compared to spot closing of 4030.
From a record high of 21,206.77 hit on 10 January 2008, Sensex has
lost 7,680.78 points or 36.21%. It is down 6,761 points or 33.32%
in calendar year 2008 so far.
BSE clocked a turnover of Rs 6,697 crore today 7 July 2008 as
compared to a turnover of Rs 5,677.98 crore on Friday, 4 July 2008.
NSE's futures & options (F&O) segment turnover was Rs 44,634.29
crore, which was higher than Rs 44,222.20 crore on Friday, 4 July
2008.
The market breadth was strong on BSE, with 1853 gainers outpacing
788 losers. 65 stocks remained unchanged. From the 30-member Sensex
pack, 22 advanced while the rest declined.
The BSE Mid-Cap index was up 1.17% at 5,339.81, while the BSE
Small-Cap index was up 2.22% at 6,593.01. Both these indices
outperformed the Sensex.
BSE FMCG index (up 2.75% to 1,992.65), BSE IT index (up 2.64% to
4,175.72), BSE Auto (up 2.23% at 3,508.96), BSE Metal index (up
1.83% to 12,257.99), BSE TecK index (up 1.5% to 3,098.36), BSE
Bankex (up 1.24% at 5,892.79), BSE PSU index (up 1.22% to
5,677.11), BSE Consumer Durables index (up 0.85% to 3,602.45), BSE
Realty index (up 0.66% at 4,660.69), BSE Power (up 0.62% to
2,320.46), outperformed Sensex.
The BSE Capital Goods index (up 0.2% at 10,708.42), BSE Health Care
index (down 0.36% at 4,108.58), The BSE Oil & Gas index (down 2.03%
to 8,882.14), underperformed Sensex.
India's second largest power utility firm by sales Reliance
Infrastructure rose 0.65% to Rs 778.55. It came off from session's
high of Rs 838.75. India's second largest telecom services provider
by sales Reliance Communications fell 4.22% to Rs 419.80. It came
off from session's high of Rs 454.90. It was the top loser from
Sensex pack.
India's largest private sector bank by sales ICICI Bank rose 0.52%
to Rs 603.75. It came off from session's high of Rs 639.95.
India's largest private sector firm by market capitalization and
oil refiner Reliance Industries fell 3.38% at Rs 2,028.15. It was
the second biggest loser from the Sensex pack.
Cairn India (down 5.49% to Rs 237.70), Essar Oil (down 1.95% to Rs
176.20) and Reliance Petroleum (down 2.77% to Rs 166.55) edged
lower. Shares of state-run oil marketing companies rose. BPCL (up
5.52% to Rs 240.90), HPCL (up 4.2% to Rs 192.20) and Indian Oil
Corporation (up 1.96% to Rs 348) edged higher.
As per reports, private oil companies like Reliance Industries
(RIL), Essar and Cairn may have to forgo some of their profits to
share the huge subsidy burden in the oil sector. A proposal on
these lines, which was first mooted by the Left parties, is now
being considered seriously by the ruling party leadership,
following a similar demand by the Congress' latest political ally,
the Samajwadi Party. A windfall tax is normally levied on oil
exploration and production companies who reap huge profits when
global crude prices increase.
Capital goods stocks declined. India's largest engineering and
construction firm by sales Larsen & Toubro (L&T) lost 1.06% to Rs
2,408. The company today bagged an order worth Rs 446 crore from
JSW Power Transco for transmission lines. India's largest electric
equipment maker by sales Bharat Heavy Electricals fell 2.26% to Rs
1466.35. However Suzlon Energy rose 1.35% to Rs 194.80.
IT stocks gained. India's second largest software exporter by sales
Infosys Technologies rose 2.61% at Rs 1,801.20. The company will
announce its Q1 Result on 11 July 2008. Satyam Computer Services
(up 4.28% to Rs 481.95), Wipro (up 2.54% to Rs 440) and Tata
Consultancy Services (up 0.98% to Rs 852) edged higher.
FMCG stocks rose. ITC (up 3.98% to Rs 177.60), United Spirits (up
4.15% to Rs 1,128.50), Hindustan Unilever (up 3.89% to Rs 209.45)
edged higher.
Jaiprakash Associates (up 4.47% to Rs 160.15), Mahindra & Mahindra
(up 4.4% to Rs 496.35), Maruti Suzuki India (up 4.34% to Rs
574.35), State Bank of India (up 3.92% to Rs 1,171.75), ACC (up
3.82% to Rs 496.20) edged higher from Sensex pack.
Tata Motors (down 2.07% to Rs 392.55), HDFC (down 0.02% to Rs
2,055), Ranbaxy Laboratories (down 0.65% to Rs 534.90), Ambuja
Cements (down 1.07% to Rs 73.90) edged lower from Sensex pack.
Spice Communications clocked the highest volume of 28.59 crore
shares on BSE. Reliance Natural Resources (2.63 crore shares), IFCI
(2.05 crore shares), Reliance Petroleum (1.16 crore shares) and
Ispat Industries (1.01 crore shares) were the other volume toppers
in that order.
Spice Communications clocked the highest turnover of Rs 2,209.24
crore on BSE. Reliance Capital (Rs 346.52 crore), Reliance
Insustries (Rs 275.37 crore), Reliance Petroleum (Rs 196.48 crore)
and Reliance Natural Resources (Rs 182.99 crore) were the other
turnover toppers in that order.
Asian markets which opened before Indian market, edged higher. The
key benchmark indices in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South
Korea and Taiwan were up by 0.11% to 4.59%. US stock markets were
closed for the Independence Day holiday on Friday, 4 July 2008.
US light crude fell 1.7% to $142.81 a barrel, having surged past
$145 last week to record highs.

Tata Consultancy Services Wins 5-Year Multi-Million Dollar Deal as ArvinMeritor''s Global Engineering
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) on March 31, 2008 has announced that it has signed a five-year, multi-million dollar contract to be the global engineering partner of ArvinMeritor (NYSE: ARM), a premier global supplier of a broad range of integrated systems, modules and components to the motor vehicle Industry.
As part of the agreement, TCS will support the localization and globalization efforts of ArvinMeritors engineering capabilities including product development and support for specific product lines in the Asia Pacific region. Glenmark implements Business Re-organisation
Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd has announced that it has implemented the re-organisation of its business into Speciality and Generics. The reorganization process had begun in Q3 FY 2007-08.
The reorganization was essential as both Glenmarks Speciality and Generics business has grown rapidly, posing a challenge of managing two diverse businesses that had both attained a critical mass. The reorganization aims to promote sharper focus on generics and specialty as separate businesses with distinctive needs, skill-sets, objectives and growth imperatives and aligned management teams.
As a result of the reorganization, Glenmark has transferred its Generics and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) businesses to its subsidiary - Glenmark Generics Ltd (GGL). GGL is guided to generate USD 180 Mn in Net Sales in FY08 and USD 255 Mn in FY09.
Mr. Terrance Coughlin (erstwhile President - API and US Generics, Glenmark) has been appointed as the CEO of GGL. Mr. Glenn Saldanha will function as the Chairman of Glenmark Generics Ltd. Glenn has been responsible for launching and running Glenmarks generic and API businesses.
Mr. Pushpinder Bindra comes aboard GGL as Chief Operating Officer.
Speaking on this development, Mr. Glenn Saldanha, CEO & MD, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd, said, The business reorganization marks the beginning of a new era in the life of Glenmark. He further elucidates, If Glenmarks recent growth was divided in phases, with the period of 2003-07 being the first phase of growth where the Company transformed from an India-centric branded generics player into a global, researched based, integrated Pharma Company in manufacturing and marketing. Here, begins the second phase, where the Company aims to become a global end to end specialty Company with capability to research, develop and launch its own differentiated branded products. On the Generics side of its business, GGL aims to be a global integrated generic and API leader.
Going forward, GGL will handle the development, manufacture and distribution of generic formulation and API businesses. The parent Company Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd continue to directly manage the novel R&D, biologics and branded formulation businesses of the Glenmark group including India, Brazil, Rest of Latin America (excluding Argentina), Russia/CIS, Africa and Asia.
The Generics business will inherit Glenmarks Goa plant for formulations, the three API plants in India, sales units in the USA and UK and the Argentina oncology operations. In addition, a group from R&D focused on API and Formulation Development will also move to the generics Company.
The branded business will remain in Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and retain all remaining assets, branded sales groups in India and overseas and all remaining R&D operations related to NCEs, Biologics and formulation development for brands.

Mr. Terrance Coughlin (erstwhile President - API and US Generics, Glenmark) has been appointed as the CEO of GGL. Mr. Glenn Saldanha will function as the Chairman of Glenmark Generics Ltd. Glenn has been responsible for launching and running Glenmarks generic and API businesses.
Mr. Pushpinder Bindra comes aboard GGL as Chief Operating Officer.
Speaking on this development, Mr. Glenn Saldanha, CEO & MD, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd, said, The business reorganization marks the beginning of a new era in the life of Glenmark. He further elucidates, If Glenmarks recent growth was divided in phases, with the period of 2003-07 being the first phase of growth where the Company transformed from an India-centric branded generics player into a global, researched based, integrated Pharma Company in manufacturing and marketing. Here, begins the second phase, where the Company aims to become a global end to end specialty Company with capability to research, develop and launch its own differentiated branded products. On the Generics side of its business, GGL aims to be a global integrated generic and API leader.
Going forward, GGL will handle the development, manufacture and distribution of generic formulation and API businesses. The parent Company Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd continue to directly manage the novel R&D, biologics and branded formulation businesses of the Glenmark group including India, Brazil, Rest of Latin America (excluding Argentina), Russia/CIS, Africa and Asia.
The Generics business will inherit Glenmarks Goa plant for formulations, the three API plants in India, sales units in the USA and UK and the Argentina oncology operations. In addition, a group from R&D focused on API and Formulation Development will also move to the generics Company.
The branded business will remain in Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and retain all remaining assets, branded sales groups in India and overseas and all remaining R&D operations related to NCEs, Biologics and formulation development for brands.

LIC to start card business in September
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) will be rolling out the credit card business by the first week of September. LIC will ink an agreement with joint venture partners for the purpose. The insurance behemoth will set up a joint venture firm called LIC Card Services in accordance with RBI guidelines. The central bank requires the formation of a new registered entity before a foray into the credit card business.
The payment gateway could be either Visa or Mastercard. LIC is engaged in talks with both, according to a senior company executive. LIC would own the largest stake in the JV, around 40 per cent, followed by GE Money India at 30-35 per cent. The insurer had signed a memorandum of understanding with GE Money India, Corporation Bank, LIC Housing Finance and LIC Mutual Fund in September last year to create a credit card company. Some loose ends would have to be tied up before the credit cards are finally launched. LIC has already linked its 2048 offices across the country through a software network to provide multi-city facilities to its customers and is in the process of checking the software platforms. LIC is also fine-tuning the channel networks and merchant establishments that would support the marketing of its credit card. LIC would offer the facility of unsecured loans against the credit card. It would also allow policy premiums to be paid through its own credit card. LIC a database of 19 crore policy holders and aims to add around 1 crore customers in three years. It is confident of having a network of 32 crore policy holders by 2011. It has 14 lakh agents and is adding 1.5 lakh every year.

UTI Asset Management to sell 20-pc stake
UTI Asset Management Company is all set to offload around 20 per cent stake to a clutch of strategic investors through a pre-initial public offering (IPO) placement. Altogether, the company would look at selling up to 49 per cent stake to public and a clutch of strategic investors. In January this year, UTI Asset Management Company Ltd had filed the draft red herring prospectus with the market regulator to enter the capital market with an IPO of 4.85 crore equity shares of Rs 10 each through an offer for sale by the selling shareholders. Its four sponsors and the selling shareholders are the State Bank of India, Life Insurance Corporation of India, Punjab National Bank and Bank of Baroda. The offer also comprises a reservation of equity shares for subscription by employees and the offer to the public.
ICICI Bank clarifies on news item
With reference to the news item appearing in a leading web portal titled, ICICI Bank has lost $ 264 Mn till Jan 31 on subprime crisis, ICICI Bank Ltd has clarified as under:
ICICI Bank Ltd has no material direct or indirect exposure to US sub-prime credit. The widening of credit spreads in the international markets have resulted in a negative mark-to-market impact on the credit derivatives and fixed income investment portfolios of the Bank and its overseas banking subsidiaries, while there has been no significant deterioration in actual credit quality of the underlying investments.
ICICI Bank and its overseas banking subsidiaries have an aggregate exposure of USD 2.2 billion in credit derivatives. As of January 31, 2008, the mark-to-market negative on this portfolio due to movement of credit spreads was about US$ 155 million of which USD 88 million had been provided for in the financial statements of the bank and its subsidiaries for the nine months ended December 31, 2007.
In addition, ICICI Bank and its overseas banking subsidiaries have fixed income investment portfolios which have a mark-to-market negative due to widening of credit spreads. As of January 31, 2008 this negative was about US $108 million of which US $ 101 million had been accounted for in the financial statements as of December 31, 2007. This includes mark-to-market on the available for sale portfolio which has been accounted for in the shareholders'' equity.
It may be noted that unrealized gains on ICICI Bank''s other investment portfolio has not been considered in above.

Uflex - Result of Postal Ballot
